Long before she became a successful businesswoman, Ireland was a teenager who was discovered at just 16 years old. Her early career quickly took off, bringing appearances in major magazines and eventually making her a familiar face in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue<\/em>. Yet the attention, fame, and glamorous photographs were only one side of her story \u2014 and what happened after her modeling years would surprise many people.<\/p>\n Kathy Ireland was born in California in 1963 and entered the modeling industry while still in her teens. In 1979, she was discovered by Elite Model Management, setting her on a path toward an international modeling career.<\/p>\n During the 1980s and 1990s, she appeared in numerous magazines and became especially well known through Sports Illustrated<\/em>.
