<\/p>\nA relaxing day at Mackenzie Falls in Victoria, Australia, suddenly turned into a desperate rescue attempt when a 28-year-old man fell into the water and drowned.

Anneka Bading, 24, had been swimming with friends at the popular waterfall in Grampians National Park while recording footage on her GoPro.<\/p>\n
Without realizing what was happening behind her, her camera captured the moments surrounding the tragedy.<\/p>\n
The man had reportedly been with a group of around ten people near the rocks at the bottom of the falls. According to Anneka, he was sitting on a rock when he apparently slipped and fell into the water.<\/p>\n
At first, Anneka and her friends had no idea why people nearby were screaming and pointing toward the water. They initially thought there might be an animal in the area. It was only moments later that they realized someone was drowning.<\/p>\n
One woman even grabbed Anneka’s GoPro stick and attempted to use it to reach the man.<\/p>\n
The rescue effort was complicated by the lack of mobile phone reception and a language barrier between the group. An off-duty lifeguard was also at the scene, but the water beneath the waterfall was extremely deep and the strong current made entering it too dangerous.<\/p>\n
Rather than risk another life, Anneka ran back toward the car park and drove for around ten minutes until she reached an area with mobile reception. She then contacted emergency services.<\/p>\n
Authorities continued searching for the missing man, but poor visibility forced police and emergency crews to suspend the search that evening. His body was eventually recovered the following day.<\/p>\n
Officials later reminded visitors that swimming was prohibited at Mackenzie Falls and urged people to follow warning signs and park safety instructions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
